Powered by coffee, buttercream and sheer will

Here’s something they don’t tell you when you start designing custom cakes: one day, you’ll be delicately painting gold luster dust onto fondant scrolls with a brush the size of an eyelash… while also trying to rescue a collapsing buttercream rose and simultaneously answering a phone call that starts with, “Hi! Can you do a four-tier cake shaped like a yacht with edible flamingos by tomorrow?”

Welcome to prep week at Queen of Cakes, where the ovens are hot, the frosting is flying, and the coffee is flowing like royal decree.

🧁 Step 1: The Sketch That Looks Nothing Like the Final Cake (But We Pretend It Does)

Every custom cake begins with a sketch—a glorious vision of tiers, textures, florals, and occasionally a dinosaur in sunglasses. We begin the order with great confidence, and they say something like,

“Perfect! Can you just make it a little more romantic, but also fun, and add glitter… but tasteful glitter?”

Challenge accepted.

🎨 Step 2: Color-Matching Like a Pantone-Obsessed Fairy Godmother

You haven’t lived until you’ve stood under three different types of bakery lighting, squinting at a bowl of dusty rose buttercream asking, “Is this still mauve, or has it become regret?”

We mix colors like alchemists, whispering sweet nothings to the buttercream until it reaches the exact shade of “Vintage Blush Champagne Dream #3.”

🧁 Step 3: The “How Many Cake Boards Do We Own?” Crisis

No matter how prepared we are, the night before cake stacking always includes a scavenger hunt for one very specific cake board we definitely had yesterday. We check under the fondant sheeter, behind the sprinkle wall, and in the glove box of someone’s car.

Spoiler: it’s always in the last place we look (usually holding someone’s coffee).

🛠️ Step 4: Engineering 101: The Physics of Cake

Here’s a little-known fact: building a tall cake is basically architectural engineering. Dowels go in. Supports are measured. We use more rulers than a geometry teacher with a Pinterest addiction.

And just when the cake is stacked and perfect… someone whispers the two most terrifying words in cake land:

“Delivery day.”

💖 Step 5: The Moment That Makes It All Worth It

After days of mixing, baking, carving, painting, piping, fixing, re-fixing, and second-guessing everything… the cake is finished.

And when the client sees it—sometimes with tears, often with gasps, always with a smile—that’s the moment. That’s the magic.

It’s the reason we do what we do.

Well, that and the frosting taste-tests. (Purely professional.)

Behind every custom cake is a story, a sketch, a slight buttercream emergency—and a team that loves turning sweet chaos into edible joy.

Because at Queen of Cakes, the frosting may be flawless—but we promise, the journey is delightfully messy.
